A past Blue Bloods villain is returning in season 14 with plans to sabotage Danny's career. Danny has had a long career as a homicide detective and always acts intending to get justice for victims and criminals off the street. However, he has not always followed the rules. Some of Blue Bloods' best episodes have featured Danny getting into trouble because of his hotheadedness, though he has often been exonerated of wrongdoing when he made split-second decisions that others didn't approve of.
During the first several seasons, Danny's marriage to Linda in Blue Bloods helped him to stay out of trouble, as she often calmed him down or talked him out of doing something impulsive or harmful. After Linda's Blue Bloods season 8 death, Danny mellowed somewhat. He is not nearly as impulsive or quick-tempered as he used to be, and on at least one occasion has stopped other officers from using their weapons in a situation where the use of force was questionable. That said, trouble is coming to him in the final few episodes of Blue Bloods.
Blue Bloods Season 14 Is Bringing Back Lori Loughlin's Grace Edwards
Edwards Will Attempt To Stop Danny From Getting An Award
Lori Loughlin is returning to Blue Bloods as Grace Edwards for the first time since season 7, episode 1. During her previous appearance, she wanted Frank to stop her son from becoming a cop because she felt it was too dangerous a career, as her husband had been killed in the line of duty. Frank ultimately did not accommodate her request because he felt it was her son's choice, not hers, whether to pursue a career as a police officer, and all he could do was be honest with him about what the job entailed.
Edwards will return in Blue Bloods season 14, episode 14, and attempt to block Danny from receiving an award from the NYPD. She claims that Danny is a "loose cannon" who does not deserve the recognition. It is not clear what her motivation for this is besides not liking Danny's track record on the job, but her history with Frank may also be a factor. Whatever her reason is, she will not get her way without a fight. Blue Bloods' Reagan family always has each other's backs, so it's likely that everyone will do whatever they can to ensure Danny gets this award.
What Grace's Manipulation Means For Danny's Blue Bloods Ending
It Could Go In One Of Two Directions
Before Edwards' return in Blue Bloods, Danny seemed to be worn out. He was exhausted after climbing a few flights of stairs and was psychologically devastated by a case involving an adult with special needs, commenting that, "Maybe it's not my knees that are worn out." Thus, this new problem could move him in one of two directions. It could be the final straw that leads to Danny deciding not to remain a detective, but it is more likely that Edwards' pressure will galvanize him so that he becomes determined to get that award and continue excelling at his job.
Blue Bloods has only a few episodes left before its series finale. Grace Edwards' attempt to stop him from getting an award will therefore play into Danny's final storyline in a significant manner. It could be the final push that leads to him finally doing away with being temperamental. It might also make him realize that his personal life is as important as his job. Hopefully, this conflict will propel him toward a new chapter of his professional life as the series wraps up, whether he gets the accolade or not.
