Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Chicago P.D. season 12, episode 5!Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan has teased that season 12 will introduce one of the darkest characters, signifying what's next for the procedural series. Chicago P.D. season 12 had a darker start than most seasons, with the newly-promoted Detective Martel (Victoria Cartagena) getting shot and killed in the premiere episode. Since then, Intelligence has been dealing with plenty of important cases while adjusting to changing dynamics. This includes the arrival of Officer Kiana Cook (Toya Turner), who, in season 12, episode 5, proved herself a valuable asset to the team.
Speaking with TVLine, Sigan revealed that Chicago P.D. season 12 will soon introduce some major villains, including one who's the darkest character the show has ever dealt with. The showrunner explained the first of these villains will appear in episodes 6 and 7, while the most grim antagonist so far will appear in episode 10. She also clarified the latter will be around for a few episodes, indicating plenty of development surrounding their crimes. Check out what Sigan had to say below:
There are a couple, yes. I can tell you that one sort of big bad we sort of introduce a little bit in Episode 6 (airing Nov. 6) and then Episode 7 you get to know more. And then we’ve got another, I would say one of the darkest characters we’ve done is introduced in episode 10, which will also be for a few episodes of the season as well. So, yeah, we’ve got some really twisted big bads coming up.
What Sigan's Tease About Chicago P.D.'s Next Villain Means For Season 12
Dark Times Are About To Fall On Intelligence
With the cast of Chicago P.D. season 12 suffering a shocking loss right from the start, the season has already established itself as one of the darkest so far. Sigan's tease involving new villains means Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and his team will need to be more vigilant than ever before when dealing with these new threats. The group has dealt with plenty of antagonistic forces before, from murderous stalkers to drug kingpins. This makes it unclear how the new villain will push these boundaries, and just how horrifying their actions will be.
Since this dark character will be a multi-episode threat, their actions could involve multiple crimes, with murder chief among them. While it's unclear what will differentiate them from the many other threats the team has faced for over 200 episodes, it seems like it could involve a taboo subject the show hasn't covered yet. Whatever the case might be, it could prove dangerous for everyone from seasoned veterans to avid newcomers on the team, pushing boundaries that a potential Chicago P.D. season 13 might not even be able to keep up with.
