Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of September 30 – October 4 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.
Hits and Misses
What we think worked and didn’t work.
General Hospital
HIT: Curtis, the CEO of Aurora Media. Being an acting CEO suits Curtis (Donnell Turner). We definitely want to see more of him in the corporate universe.
HIT: Lucky and Liz reunion. Two things, especially. 1) Liz (Rebecca Herbst) doesn’t let Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) off the paternal hook. He barely knows Aiden (Colin Cassidy), but he needs to get to know him. 2) Has anybody noticed that Liz has more of a presence on GH these days? It’s nice, and hopefully, it’ll continue.
HIT: Lucky and Isaac reunited. Their friendship vibe totally works. Isaac (Sawandi Wilson) knows a side of Lucky that nobody else knows. And Lucky can be Isaac’s way into the Port Charles community.
MISS: Nina tells Curtis she wants her relationship with Drew (Cameron Mathison) to evolve. Nina (Cynthia Watros), you know he kissed your daughter, Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). Come to your senses, please!
MISS: Alexis giving Heather legal advice in prison. Laura (Genie Francis) isn’t around to show empathy to Heather (Alley Mills). So, it’s up to Alexis to give Heather advice on how to handle her case? Hard pass.
MISS: Gio’s perspective on Ava during his clash with Trina (Tabyana Ali). What was the point of this mini-debate during the Friday, Oct. 4 episode? Sure, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) owes a lot to Sonny (Maurice Benard), but he knows by now what kind of man his “uncle” is. And he won’t play at Ava’s (Maura West) gallery? Please.
HIT: Ava’s friendship with Trina now extends to helping Portia. With this Heather story, it’s been Portia (Brook Kerr) against the world. It’s nice to have somebody on her side for a change. And if anybody can justify doing something wrong for the right reasons, it’s her.
MISS: Portia wants Brad out of the lab. Yikes, Portia. Step away from Brad (Perry Shen). Yes, he’s done all kinds of wrong. But he also did his time. Since she’s up to no good right now, she should relate to him.

The Bold and the Beautiful
HIT: Katie and Will’s relationship. With all the darkness that’s thrown at us on Y&R, it’s nice that on its sister soap, Katie’s (Heather Tom) and Will’s (Crew Morrow) mother-son relationship is fun, light, and funny. They were the light refresher we needed this week.
HIT: Katie tells Bill she’s no stand-in for Bill. Once again, Katie rejected Dollar Bill (Don Diamont). We’re not sure why, and we’re not sure if that’s what we wanted. However, her reasons were wonderful. She’ll always be second to Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), and she doesn’t want to get hurt again. Completely understandable.
MISS: Therapists make the worst patients. Yes, Broken Heart Syndrome is real. It’s even listed on The Mayo Clinic website. But Taylor’s (Rebecca Budig) reaction to not dying and to this diagnosis was over the top. Also, Ridge’s (Thorsten Kaye) ego sure expanded exponentially after he heard this was Taylor’s diagnosis. That didn’t need to be a byproduct of this BHS diagnosis.
MISS: Repetitive conversations. We got a tiny break from the Logan versus Forrester conversational exchanges. Not completely, but largely. Instead, it was all “Taylor, Taylor, Taylor.” Every aspect of this woman’s life was dissected and praised as if she’d achieved sainthood. Smaller doses, that’s all we ask. Also, please give us a break on Hope (Annika Noelle) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) confrontations. Can you let those two ignore each other for a week?
MISS: Liam (Scott Clifton) is back in Steffy’s orbit. This is a preventative miss. We don’t know if their cozy conversation will go anywhere, but we hope it won’t.

Days of Our Lives
HIT: Sophia and Holly showdown. The next generation of soap actors must learn how to execute a huge face-off in the middle of town. Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Sophia (Madelyn Kientz) now have one under their belt. They did a great job, especially with that slap.
HIT: Eric’s attitude with Xander. Whenever there’s a confrontation between Xander (Paul Telfer) and Eric (Greg Vaughan), it usually turns into a volatile situation. But this time, Eric reined his rage in and calmly and coolly questioned Xander. He also let him know he was suspicious of what he was doing standing over Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) bed.
HIT: Brady admits Kristen’s (Stacy Haiduk) an addiction. A self-aware Brady is a Brady that’s getting healthier.
MISS: Greene family confusion. We’re unclear as to what’s going on with this story. We get why Fake Abby (AnnaLynne McCord) has to marry Chad (Billy Flynn), but not how they will get the money. The family background is all over the place and nowhere at the same time, if that’s possible.
MISS: Stephanie’s (Abigail Klein) love life. She’s gone from disaster to disaster to disaster. Time for her to choose herself for a little while.

The Young and the Restless
MISS: It’s not enough for Sharon to go after Heather. When Ghost Cameron (Linden Ashby) told Sharon (Sharon Case) that this wasn’t over, that a dead Heather (Vail Bloom) wasn’t enough, and that Daniel (Michael Graziadei) had to be taken care of, we couldn’t believe it. Sharon Case nails every emotion, as do all the actors in this arc, but we need the story to be over soon. The darkness is real.
HIT: Lucy finds out Heather’s dead. Lily Brooks O’Briant gave a heartbreaking performance as Lucy when she found out her mom had died. And at that time, she thought Heather’s death was an accident. Wait until she finds out it was murder.
MISS: Lily AND Audra are both out. Victor (Eric Braeden) fired Audra (Zuleyka Silver), and he’s screwing over Lily (Christel Khalil). And that’s only after Billy (Jason Thompson) fired Lily for doing the same thing he pretty much has been doing. Also, Kyle (Michael Mealor) maneuvered Audra out, even though this was the company she brought to Victor. This is why Audra and Lily need to team up to take down the guys and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford).

JURY’S OUT: Is Chance (Conner Floyd) back in at the Genoa City PD? Why did the show even turn Chance into a Corporate Ken Doll? Admittedly, he was actually pretty good at it, except for the whole social aspect. He seemed like an adorable puppy standing in the middle of all these sharks. The whole time, it felt like he just wanted Lily to be his boss, and we were here for that. We’re glad he’s going to be investigating Heather’s death, but it’s jarring when, two seconds ago, he was Mr. Corporate Guy.
