FBI: Most Wanted Season 5 Adds X-Files & Supernatural Star As Character From Ray’s Past

FBI: Most Wanted season 5 recruits an X-Files and Supernatural star as someone from Ray's past. It was recently announced that FBI: Most Wanted would bring in Special Agent Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten) as a main cast member. VanSanten, who has also had roles in One Tree HillThe Boys, and For All Mankind, joined the original FBI in season 4 as Special Agent Chase and continued to recur throughout season 5. But she won't be the only familiar face to appear in the Most Wanted spinoff.

Deadline confirms that veteran actor Steven Williams has been cast in FBI: Most Wanted season 5 as the father of Special Agent Ray Cannon (Edwin Hodge). Williams, best known for playing Adam Fuller on 21 Jump Street, Mr. X on The X-Files, and Rufus Turner on Supernatural, will make several appearances as Ray Cannon Sr. after debuting in the February 20 episode of the CBS procedural drama. Hodge, who joined FBI: Most Wanted in season 4, reacted in a statement:

“Casting pulls no punches when it comes to bringing amazing artists on the show. When I found out Steven Williams was jumping on to play my father, I was instantly excited. I’d watched his work for years and knew that he would bring an element that would be engaging to our audience.”

“He’s intense, but hilarious at the same time. It’s a great combination for the foundation of his and Ray’s relationship on the show. Meeting his father opens up Ray’s world a little more for the audience by giving meaning and understanding to why he chose the same path in life to serve in law enforcement. It’ll be fun to see how their relationship develops and also the impact it may have on Ray in the future.”

When FBI: Most Wanted returns with new episodes, it will pick up from where it left off. Remy (Dylan McDermott) finds out that the person who was put behind bars for his brother’s murder was innocent. The real murderer turns out to be someone much closer to home, and once the real criminal is caught, a secret begins to unravel. It's revealed that Remy is an uncle to a college student who isn’t exactly open to beginning a familial relationship.

Remy's situation echoes Ray's in “Footsteps,” the episode where Williams makes his first appearance. In the episode, The Fugitive Task Force stands ready as multiple bombings appear to be targeting NYPD officers. On another front, Ray contemplates his relationship with Cora (Caroline Harris) and what their next step should be.

Williams — who has many TV and movie roles, from HBO's The Leftovers and True Detective, to the recent films Velvet Buzzsaw and Birds of Prey — is a very recognizable addition to the FBI: Most Wanted ensemble. It appears that he'll be joining the series just as the relatively new character, Special Agent Ray Cannon, will receive a deeper examination.
