Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from SEAL Team season 7, episode 3, "Ships in the Night."

SEAL Team season 7 is back for episode 3, and while the hour is mostly just filler, some important things came out of the episode, including more suspicions surrounding the newest member of Bravo, Drew Franklin. The Paramount+ military drama, created by Benjamin Cavell, follows David Boreanaz's Jason Hayes and his Bravo Team, a subunit of an elite Navy SEALs unit, the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group. SEAL Team season 7 will consist of 10 episodes and serve as the Paramount+ show's final outing as fans prepare to bid farewell to Jason, Ray, Sonny, Lisa, and the other characters.

As some may recall, SEAL Team season 7, episode 2 ended with Jason continuing to struggle with his traumatic brain injury (TBI) after killing a man in self-defense during the terrorist attack in Sweden. However, little progress is made in treating the condition during the third hour. Elsewhere, the investigation into the assault on General Decker (formerly known as Colonel Decker) is beginning to catch up on Sonny Quinn after episode 2. Plus, as mentioned above, more is revealed about Drew in SEAL Team season 7, episode 3. Although, he is still mostly a mystery waiting to be solved.

Bravo Team's Mission In Bangkok, Explained

Command Sends The Team After China-Backed Drug Traffickers In SEAL Team Season 7

Bravo Team in SEAL Team season 7 episode 3

Bravo receives some good news toward the beginning of SEAL Team season 7, episode 3 — Command is sending them back into action. However, their first mission is a risky one. Jason, Ray, Sonny, Omar, Drew, and the rest of the team partner with the DEA for a joint task force regarding the Sai Lou, a Chinese criminal syndicate that deals in drug trafficking (and has the support of their government). The team is sent to the American consulate in Bangkok, Thailand, where they run operations throughout the Golden Triangle.

Before leaving, though, Lisa Davis expresses concerns that Bravo is being set up to fail, which may or may not be true. Nevertheless, they push on and arrive in Bangkok, where the DEA informs them of their mission — gather intel on Sai Lou by infiltrating one of the group's ships docked near the Heron Reef in the South China Sea. However, since they'll be on Chinese territory, Bravo has to be extra careful not to get caught (and accidentally start a war with China).

The mission is relatively successful, but the SEALs have a small hiccup when a patrol boat almost catches Jason, Omar, and Sonny. Thankfully, Drew is quick on his feet and drives one of the ship's vehicles into the water, distracting the patrol boat and allowing everyone to escape in one piece (and no major deaths in SEAL Team season 7, so far). Bravo accomplishes their mission, proving to Command that they still have what it takes to be the best in SEAL Team season 7, episode 3, "Ships in the Night."

Why Bravo Is Sent Back Into Action

Captain Walch Wants The Team To Prove Themselves To Him

Dylan Walsh as Captain Walch in SEAL Team season 7 episode 3

After they get chastised for their actions in Sweden (despite saving hundreds of lives), Command decides to give Bravo another shot in SEAL Team season 7, episode 3, by sending them to Asia. Of course, they are skeptical of their new mission. However, they are eager to get back into the field, so, they accept (as if they have a choice).

Plus, Captain Walch, played by Dylan Walsh in the cast of SEAL Team season 7, admits that he wants to see what Bravo can do firsthand. Since Captain Walch is new, he wants Jason's team to prove themselves to him, which is part of the reason why he assigns them the mission. It also helps that Bravo is the only available team since everyone else is already deployed.

Drew Is Assigned Full Time To Bravo

Drew Is Upset About Joining Bravo Permanently

To no one's surprise, Commander Eric Blackburn informs Drew that Command has assigned him to Bravo full-time, meaning the massive changes for the Bravo Team in SEAL Team season 7 keep coming. Drew counters that he is "committed" to an intensive Pro Dev itinerary, but Blackburn calls him out for trying to avoid being a part of a team. Drew doesn't have much of a choice in the manner, so, he joins Bravo ASAP, much to his dismay. While Sonny and Omar try to get him to open up during the hour, Drew remains a closed book, which could change very soon.

More Information About Drew's Family & Past Is Revealed

Toward the start of the story in SEAL Team season 7, episode 3, the journalist Drew's sister warned him about, Chelsea Wallen, approaches him at a coffee shop and tries to ask him about his family. According to her, the Franklins have been a "fixture of American business and politics" since the 1800s. So, Chelsea is doing a piece exploring the family's history, which is seemingly fraught with scandal, including inbreeding, substance abuse, corporate malfeasance, and Satanism, and she wants Drew to be her informant.

According to the journalist, many questions surround Drew's mother, and Drew cut ties with his family when he was 19. Unfortunately, not much else is revealed about his family. Later, though, Drew tries to threaten Commander Blackburn with the knowledge that his father is a senator after learning he was joining Bravo full-time. Plus, at the end of SEAL Team season 7, episode 3, Jason informs Drew he "knows what happened" to him in his past, further adding to the mystery concerning Drew's character. Something traumatic happened to Drew, and viewers will undoubtedly learn more as the season continues.

As some may remember, Sonny punched Colonel Decker after learning that he was to blame for the failed mission in Mali. Unfortunately for Sonny, an investigation into the assault is underway in SEAL Team season 7, and he thinks he has been found out when personnel call him in for a meeting in episode 3. However, when Sonny gets there, they tell him they want him to help develop a new medkit for the Navy after he designed one during a previous mission. While Sonny escapes episode 3 scot-free, he will likely be caught before SEAL Team season 7 ends.
