Warning: SPOILERS ahead for SEAL Team season 7, episode 5!SEAL Team star Beau Knapp has explained how Jason leaving at the end of season 7, episode 5 will impact the team in the next episode, teasing a strong level of tension to come. Throughout the latest episode of the action drama, the team leader got phone calls from his son's hockey coach, revealing he tore his ACL and would need reconstructive surgery. SEAL Team season 7, episode 5 ended with Jason abruptly departing from Bravo team despite their deployment in Asia, going home to be with his injured son.
Speaking with TVLine, Knapp, who portrays Bravo's newest member, Drew Franklin, explained how Jason's absence in season 7, episode 6 will impact the team and their mission. The star explained how Jason actor David Boreanaz directed episode 6, and it will feature some scenes with him and his son. As for the team themselves, there appears to be no clear leader in their mission following Jason's departure, but they will come together to finish their mission. Check out what Knapp had to say below:
Yeah. Six is an interesting episode because David directed it. So he had a few scenes with his son and everything. DB will get the best out of us because he knows us because he has worked with us. He sees our strengths, our flaws, how we work, and he’s able to, not manipulate, but get us to a place where we shine.
But yeah, not having B1 [Jason] there is really complicated because you’re like, who’s in charge? Is Ray in charge? It’s almost like a free-for-all. It is such an action-packed episode, and so we stay busy with— when we’re sitting around a table, at the cages or whatever, we could talk and be personal and talk s**t and all that, but when it comes down to it, when we’re in a fight, all that stuff’s forgotten. What they talk about is, can we trust Drew? Can I trust Sonny to have my back when the bullets start flying? All this stuff. But yeah, I think [Episode] 6 is probably a time where we all come together the most, besides closer towards the end. It’s like after [Episode] 5, we went through it and now we’re in all this situation. And in 5, Drew’s like, let’s just be professional, let’s never talk about this moment again. I don’t want to f***ing hear it from you guys. Nothing. This never happened. So there’s a respect between everybody after that. It’s like going through something together. And even if it’s unspoken afterward, we all know. There was truth told, secrets told, and yeah, I think they’re definitely closer than ever.
What Jason's Departure Means For SEAL Team Season 7, Episode 6
The Team Will Need To Work Closely As Their Mission Continues
Without Jason around to guide the team, the cast of SEAL Team season 7 will need to quickly create a new structure for themselves as they continue their mission. There is bound to be more dramatic tension going forward, though, as Knapp makes it clear there won't be a fortified secondary leader for the team when the episode begins. While it appears everyone will come together by the time episode 6 closes out, they likely won't get to the point of working without Jason until they've gone through some major conflict with one another.
As for Jason himself, episode 5 saw him struggling to balance being a dad for his son and a leader for his team, evident by the final decision he makes. With only five episodes of SEAL Team left, it appears Mikey's torn ACL will be a major factor in where his ongoing leadership position goes, especially depending on how well the team can manage without him. Depending on how well the mission in China ends, it will likely lead to major conflict in the episodes to come, as the lead character is forced to wrestle with where his true priorities lay.
Our Take On Jason Leaving Bravo Behind
He Prioritizes His Family
While Jason leaving his team behind will make for a much more tenuous mission moving forward, it seems his responsibilities as a father are growing more important to him than his leadership in Bravo. His son's ACL tear could be what drives his storyline for the rest of season 7, making him rethink the dangerous international missions he's always sent on. SEAL Team episode 6 could be an evolutionary moment for both him and his team, as they learn to live without one another, impacting how the final episodes of the season play out.
