Why Cole Sprouse has not spoken to the ‘Friends’ cast since playing David Schwimmer’s son

Cole Sprouse made several memorable appearances on NBC’s hit sitcom “Friends” as Ross Geller’s son, Ben.

The “Riverdale” star, 31, appeared in a plethora of episodes between 2000 to 2002 when he was seven years old. However, Sprouse has not had contact with any cast members: David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, the late Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc.

Perry died in October 2023 at the age of 54 after being found unresponsive in his jacuzzi. “Friends has become now such an iconic thing, this entity,” the Disney Channel child star told People recently. “But I was only really on it for 10 episodes!” he exclaimed.

“I’ve actually never had the chance or never bumped into any of them,” Sprouse continued, adding that not seeing any of his old co-stars in Tinseltown “is almost more rare than the opposite.” “I thought for sure I would’ve bumped into them,” he joked.

“Friends” became a global phenomenon during its 10-year run. The sitcom aired from 1994 until 2004 and filmed 236 episodes. After his stint on “Friends,” Sprouse scored a main role on the Disney series “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody” alongside his twin brother, Dylan Sprouse. The show followed two rowdy and precocious brothers who live the high life in the Tipton hotel in Boston. The show was followed by a spin-off titled “The Suite Life on Deck” in 2008.

Of the iconic 2005 comedy show, the “Lisa Frankenstein” actor dished that he “never anticipated that it would’ve been such an important part of so many people’s childhoods.” “It’s really beautiful to see that people still have such a wonderful and nostalgic space still carved out for children’s programming and our show,” he continued.

While Sprouse and his brother are close with “all the Suite Life cast and crew … the only person that I have pretty consistent communication with from that period” is Adam Sandler. “I still talk to him,” the aspiring photographer noted. Sprouse and Sandler, 57, starred together in the 1999 comedy “Big Daddy.” Last April, Aniston, 55, and Sandler were shocked at how much Sprouse had grown in the last two decades.

“Oh, no they’re not,” she continued. “I knew what those kids were capable of,” Sandler said. He quipped: “I set the table for the kids to hop on ‘Friends,’ that was one thing that Jen said when I first met her, ‘Just would you please break in the children for us?’” “You did, and now look at them!” Aniston responded.
